The Las Vegas Loop is growing!
What is known as the Vegas Loop, that underground people mover being built by Elon Musk’s Boring company, will change how tourists move around the Las Vegas tourist corridor.
It's gaining momentum, with new stations either breaking ground or nearing completion.
Currently, plans are in place for a total of 104 stations with 68 miles of tunnels beneath the Las Vegas tourist corridor.
The Convention Center is where it all starts and has three stations on its own.
The tunnels from there go to Resorts World, followed by tunnels to Westgate and then the Encore station opened earlier this year.
They currently operate when the convention center is open. In Vegas, that seems like almost every other week! But the ultimate plan is for it to run daily., much like the Monorail does now.
All the work right now is focuse don the Las vegas Strip atre. But the downtown extensions are now in the permitting process.
To do this, there are six dedicated boring machines – three in operation right now. Using what's called the “ZPT process.” There are zero people in the tunnels (ZPT), It’s just the boring machine, cutting, and cement lining.
Current projects:
Paradise Corridor/Airport - currently in construction
These five stations are expected to come online within the next three to six months. Of the five, two will be serving the Sphere.
One is at the old FireFly restaurant location. The second one is located at the former Garden Birch Brewery site. The other stations are; one is across the street from the Virgin Hotel resort and one at the resort itself. . The station at the Virgin Resort is the onee nearest completion.
Followed by the biggest one of them all, so far - the UNLV station.
The UNLV Hub Details
This station is serving the airport as well as the University of Las Vegas (UNLV) campus and its Thomas & Mack Center. Home ot large events as wellas college sporting events.
To serve the airport and not deal with whatever is left of the Taxi Cab Mafia, the FAA, and Clark County politics, the cars will exit the tunnels here, drive to the airport, and return to the tunnels.
This entire intersection is currently a speghetti mess of traffic congestion. The redevlopment will ease the traffic flow and make it easier to use other transit options in one spot.
Next Focus - Tropicana Loop
UNLV to MGM Grand
Possible extension to the Sacramento A’s stadium, if that ever happens.
T-Mobile arena
Allegiant Stadium
Mandalay Bay/ “Welcome to Fabulous Vegas” sign
To dig, there are six dedicated boring machines – three in operation right now using what's called the “ZPT process.” There are zero people in the tunnels (ZPT), It’s all automated. The boring machines cut the rock, excavate it out, and line the concrete walls.
The closer they get to opening one station, they seem to add a couple more! I look forward to sharing news about more stations being added or opening soon.
